Dimapur: In a notable initiative highlighting the role of physical fitness in recovery, a gym in Wokha has begun providing structured fitness training to inmates of a rehabilitation centre at Yikhum village.
Pro Fitness Gym, Wokha, extended its support to the Ekhumrhong Rehab Centre by organising a physical fitness programme for its inmates on March 16. The initiative will be conducted over a period of 30 days as part of the centreโs rehabilitation schedule.
The programme has been designed for individuals undergoing a 45-day recovery period. As part of the process, fitness activities are introduced after the initial 30 days of treatment, offering inmates a constructive outlet that helps prevent relapse and discourages a return to previous habits.
During rehabilitation, physical fitness is considered essential not only for improving overall health but also for building confidence and addressing social stigma, making it a key component of the recovery process.
At present, the centre houses 11 inmates, with some expected to complete their programme and be released in the coming days.
The fitness sessions are being led by Mhabemo Odyuo, director of the Ekhumrhong Rehab Centre, who is guiding participants through exercises aimed at strengthening both physical endurance and mental resilience.
The initiative seeks to introduce structured activities that support recovery, instil discipline and promote healthier lifestyles among individuals undergoing rehabilitation.
