On the day of polling for the lone Nagaland parliamentary seat and the Aonglenden Assembly constituency (by-poll), drugs in soap boxes were seized at Khuzama near Kohima on Thursday.

According to information, the drugs kept in soap boxes were concealed in the doors of an SUV vehicle.

The vehicle was bearing sticker of Nagaland government.

The registration number of the vehicle is NL-10-5432.

However, it is yet to be confirmed whether the vehicle is actually registered with any Nagaland government office and is used by any government official of the state.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case.

Investigation is going on, say sources.

According to reports, liquor, drugs and unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 2.96 crore were seized from different parts of Nagaland since the model code of conduct came into force in the state.

Media reports quoted Nagaland chief electoral officer Abhijit Sinha as saying that till April 5, total cash seizure is Rs 89,58,240 which include Rs 72.10 lakh by Income Tax department and Rs 17,48,240 by Flying Squad (FS), Static Surveillance Team (SST) and police force.

A total of 61,624.93 litres of liquor amounting to Rs 1,72,40,923.583 have been seized till date by the team, including Excise department.

Assorted drugs, including heroin, ganja, brown sugar, cough syrup amounting to Rs 34,14,435 have also been confiscated during the period, he said.
