Nagaland government has declared May 28 as paid holiday for all the employees of government, private establishments and shops to enable them to participate and exercise their franchise. By-election to lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland will be held on May 28.

Nagaland home commissioner R Ramakrishnan, in a notification, on Thursday also said those electors, including casual workers working outside the constituency concerned will also be entitled to the benefit of the paid holiday. However, this will not apply to any elector whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which he or she is engaged, the notification said.

In a separate notification on Thursday, Dimapur deputy commissioner and district electoral officer Sushil Kumar Patel has informed all drivers of requisitioned vehicles for the ensuing by-election who wish to exercise their franchise through election duty certificate to apply in Form 12A which entitles them to cast vote in another polling station posted on the day of polling. The form may be obtained from the DC’s office and the last date of its submission is May 23, he said.

He further directed all the polling personnel detailed for the by-election duty to attend the second phase training which will be held at Dimapur Government College on May 19.

The DEO further warned that failure to attend the training will be viewed seriously and strict action will be initiated against the absentees as per the Representation of the People’s Act 1950 and Conduct of Election Rules 1961.
