Mushroom Spawn Production Laboratory inaugurated at Tuensang.

Nagaland got its sixth mushroom spawn production laboratory. Director of Horticulture Dr R. Elithung inaugurated the laboratory at the Horticulture department office in Tuensang today.

Speaking at the programme, Elithung said the installation of the laboratory in Tuensang, which was sponsored by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and implemented by the State Horticulture Department, is the sixth one in the State.

He said mushroom cultivation is one of the most promising cultivations amongst the horticulture activities which requires less time for cultivation and harvest.

“It is a very nutritious crop which is the best example of waste to wealth which can be cultivated for self-use and economic productivity,” he said.

Elithung added that the spawn production laboratory in Tuensang will be very beneficial for both the consumers and the producers.

Deputy Director, Horticulture, Bhupam Phom, in his short speech, said every interested individual can train and get the needed spawn for mushroom cultivation for self-sustenance. It will be very helpful from the economic point of view, he added

Tuensang District Agriculture Officer K. Showuba termed the setting up of the laboratory as a good initiative for the farmers of Tuensang district.

He urged all the Agri and allied departments to be pro-active in bringing up such developmental projects in the district so that more progressive farmers can be produced.

Progressive farmers of Tuensang, among others, attended the programme.
