Dimapur: The extreme monsoon weather occurrences caused widespread damages across Nagaland while five people were washed away in different locations in the state.

According to an update from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Thursday (July 04), reports of damages to houses, roads, bridges, breast wall of roads, fishery ponds, paddy fields, jhum cultivation and also loss of human lives due to the extreme weather conditions were received.

In Tuensang district of Nagaland, two boys from Kejok village were washed away at Ayong nullah on June 28.

The body of one of them was retrieved the same day.

Though the search operation continued till the third day of the incident, the body of the other boy could not be recovered, and the search operation was called off with the consent of the father of the deceased and all parties involved in the operation.

According to reports, a youth drowned in Nsonji lake in Tseminyu district of Nagaland and his body was recovered on July 01.

On June 29, a youth was reportedly swept away in the Dzuvuru stream in Kohima district of Nagaland.

Though the search operation is still being continued, his body could not be retrieved to date.

In Noklak district of Nagaland, a person was swept away by strong water current at Nguhaiu between Saddle to Noklak on July 01.

His body was retrieved around 8 pm the same day.

In Mokokchung district of Nagaland, landslides occurred in several wards affecting human habitation.

In Kiphire district, continuous rains have caused damage to public infrastructures and families in Forest ward, Medical ward, Kiphire-Amahator road, Kiza colony and Jail ward prompting the evacuation of several families.

Flood waters also damaged paddy fields in the district.

Several landslides/road blockages were also reported at Fakim/Tsundang area, Tsuvong ward, Pungro sub-division and between Sitimi and Shisimi in the district.

In Noklak district of Nagaland, landslides were reported in Punyaongan ward 4, Punyaongan region and Sanglao village.

Due to incessant rains, road damages and road sinking have been reported between Chingmei and Noklak and Nokak-Saddle.

In Zunheboto district, several houses were destroyed by landslides at DC Hill West.

Zhavame village in Phek reported paddy field damage due to the flash flood.

In Shamator district of Nagaland, the Shiponger and Muksuke bridges between Chessore and Y Anner had been partially destroyed by flash flood on July 02.

Another large landslide was reported from the NAP ward. Landslides and mudslides at multiple locations under the Shamator district in Nagaland were also reported.

Peren district also reported landslides on Tening-Nsong road.
