Nagaland: Dzükou Valley to become plastic free zone from June 5

The scenic Dzükou Valley in Nagaland is all set to become a ‘plastic free zone’ on Wednesday next coinciding with World Environment Day.

Er Zale Neikha, advisor, Youth Resources & Sports is scheduled to make the official declaration in this regard at Viswema village at 10:00 am on June 5.

The occasion will be have participation of locals of the region who have been working tirelessly over the last many days to clear the plastic debris of the iconic valley.

The initiative to declare the Dzükou Valley as a ‘plastic free zone’ was taken by Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) in affirmation of its pledge to preserve and the protect the environment.

The SAYO had undertaken social work at Dzükou Valley last month and cleaned the area of plastics and compost waste materials.

Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) President, Vimeyol Theyo will also exhort the gathering to keep the valley clean and maintain its pristine beauty.

SAYO president, Zakeleto Tsükrü further informed that in order to enforce strict compliance of a ‘plastic free zone,’ in the Dzükou Valley, the two entry point to Southern Dzükou will be manned.
