Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton kicked off the Tsungremmong Mini Hornbill Festival 2018 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung of Nagaland on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inauguration, Patton said Mokokchung district was one of the beneficiaries of the decision taken by the PDA government to organize mini hornbill festivals coinciding with major festivals of Naga tribes in order to provide a boost to tourism in all the districts and some subdivisions where some tribes were concentrated.
He said the festival was aimed at giving equal opportunities to all Naga tribes to promote local entrepreneurs and showcase their rich and beautiful cultural heritage.
He hoped that the mini hornbill festival would help in promoting brotherhood among neighbouring districts and States.

The festival is a collective celebration initiated by the State Government and people of Mokokchung district.
Patton also said the mini hornbill festival should not be seen as wastage of time, energy and resources, but rather seen as a move taken by the PDA government to encourage people’s participation during premier festivals of different Naga tribes.
Referring to the publication of the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, Patton said that the State Government had put all entry points from neighbouring Assam on a high alert to check influx of illegal immigrants.
He admitted that the government alone could not put a complete check on this unless there was strong support from the public.
