The Executive Committee of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Sunday informed that it has outrightly rejected the offer of the resignation by K Therie as the NPCC President.

In a press communique, NPCC General Secretary Capt GK Zhimomi informed that the NPCC Executive Committee resolved to request the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to ‘honour’ its decision until proper accountability is fixed on factors responsible for the election debacle.

The NPCC clarified that Therie offered his resignation by owning full moral responsibility for the recent election debacle during the Executive Committee meeting of the NPCC held in Kohima on March 10.

However, the news being circulated and published about the resignation of Therie as NPCC President has caused much confusion with some local dailies even going to the extent of writing a political obituary for NPCC, the release stated.

“It was very unfortunate that what was published in a section of local dailies and also circulated on social media platforms was just one side of the story,” the NPCC added.

According to reports, since the AICC directly appointed Therie, his resignation cannot be channelised through the NPCC and he has to submit his resignation letter to the AICC.

The Congress party fielded 18 candidates but failed to win even one seat in the recent Assembly elections in the State. Initially, the party released a list of 23 candidates. However, five candidates withdrew their candidature citing shortage of funds to contest the elections.
