The Nagaland Congress on Saturday condemned the heinous rape and assault of 19-year-old Hathras victim on September 14 and her subsequent forced cremation on September 29.

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) also expressed strong disapproval and condemned the conduct of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and his police and administration’s handling of mourners and the entire case.

“The conduct has violated all forms of law, culture, customs and humanity. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is perhaps the slogan of Modi’s betrayal,” NPCC president K Therie said in a statement.

He said the police and administration’s conduct of intimidating the victim’s family members by not allowing them to perform her last rites and forcible cremation of her body by them is just another example of BJP’s misuse of government machinery to fulfil its biding.

Therie said the way the Congress delegation, led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was manhandled to deny them access to the mourning family has once again exposed the BJP’s intolerance towards established democratic practices.

“Our daughters have become prey of BJP Hyenas in UP. Perhaps it is their basic instinct. For them, women are objects of use and throw. They have no affection towards women,” the NPCC stated.
