Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president K Therie vehemently condemned Sunday’s incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri in which four farmers were killed.

Therie called a press conference here on Tuesday to denounce the killing of the farmers. He alleged that the farmers were ‘intentionally’ killed by the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh despite knowing fully well that they were protesting against the Centre’s three farm laws.

Therie said the son of Union MoS Ajay Kumar Mishra should have been immediately arrested for the killing of the farmers.

“But the BJP government will not do that as it has no concern for the common people,” he stated.

He accused the minister of trying to protect his son, adding “you cannot expect justice from the BJP government”.

Therie also condemned the detention of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi by the Uttar Pradesh police without an FIR or arrest order when she went to pay homage to the victims and console their family members on Monday.

“Priyanka is one of the leaders who has a genuine heart for the poor,” he said.

Therie said at a time when the people of the country are protesting against price hike, religious and caste divide and economic failure, the BJP government at the Centre is continuing to sell the public properties acquired by the past Congress governments.

He said the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has solidified itself in a thick wall and that it cannot hear the people’s cries.

“The only way forward is to remove the BJP government in 2024 parliamentary elections,” Therie added.

He also said the BJP-led government at the Centre has no political will to resolve the decades-old Naga political issue.
