The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) on Friday staged demonstration in front of its office in Kohima and DC Court junction here simultaneously on Friday seeking Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio’s immediate intervention to address their three-point charter of demand.

All the colleges in the state, both government and private, remained shut on the day as the students thronged the venues in large number to take part in the protest.

The college students under Dimapur district have also decided to boycott their classes from Friday until their demands are fulfilled.

In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister after the demonstration, the ANCSU urged him to resolve the land encroachment issue of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma (Autonomous) while asserting that it will not allow any kind of encroachment or other settlements that may compromise with even an inch of the land that belongs to the institution.

The union also demanded proper demarcation of boundaries of all government colleges in the state with fencing/concrete walls.

It pointed out that most of the government colleges in the state do not have proper demarcation of their campuses leading to encroachment of their land.

All related disputes on encroachment of college lands should be settled and fencing/concrete walls be erected to protect the lands, the memorandum said.

The college students further demanded permanent settlement of their scholarship issue and setting up of separate cell or nodal department.

They wanted disbursement of scholarships within a stipulated time or month every year.
