Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio’s mother and wife of Guolhoulie Rio from Tuophema village in Kohima, Kevilhounyii-ii Rio, died on Wednesday.

She died of old age ailments.

Kevilhounyii-ii Rio was 92 years old.

She was born on December 27, 1928.

Expressing deep condolence at Kevilhounyii-ii Rio’s demise, Nagaland minister for higher & technical education minister Temjen Imna Along tweeted: “Deeply saddened to know about the death of  Smti. Kevilhounyii-ii Rio, Mother of our Chief Minister, Shri. @Neiphiu_Rio.”

Along, who is also the Nagaland BJP president, further tweeted: “I pray for the peace and comfort of the bereaved family during this difficult period. May her soul rest in peace.”

MLA & advisor, animal husbandry & veterinary services & women resource development, government of Nagaland, R Khing, tweeted: “Came to learn about the demise of Mrs Kevilhounyii-ii Rio W/o Guolhoulie Rio, Mother of our Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio and Hon’ble Advisor Shri Zhaleo Rio at Kohima.”

“May God’s comfort and peace be upon the family members at this time of bereavement. May her soul RIP,” Khing added.

Anand Mishra, a national executive member of the BJP Kisan Morcha while sharing his condolence message on the Twitter handle said: “Sir, @Neiphiu_Rio I extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family. May the soul of your mother be at peace with our Heavenly Father.”

BJP MLA from Suruhoto constituency, H. Khehovi tweeted: “It is terrible to hear about the loss of Smti. Kevilhounyii-ii Rio, Mother of Chief Minister Shri. @Neiphiu_Rio.”

Saying that she has been “a beautiful and kind soul”, Khehovi said, “I express my sincere sympathy. May our Lord bless and comfort the bereaved family during this time of grief.”

BJP MLA from Akuluto and the advisor, CAWD/NSDMA, government of Nagaland, Kazheto Kinimi in his condolence message said: “I am truly sorry to hear about the passing of smt. Kevilhounyii-ii Rio mother of our honourable CM  @Neiphiu_Rio.”

“Sending you and your family my sincerest condolences.”

“May God give u and your family strength to bear the great pain. And May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

According to reports, the mortal remains of Kevilhounyii-ii Rio will be laid to rest in Rio’s family cemetery at Botsa under the Kohima district.
