National Legal Services Authority under the aegis of the Supreme Court of India organized a Commendation Ceremony acknowledging the exemplary work done in the areas of equality and justice, on December 15 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

A statement issued to the media from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) information and public relation officer stated that awards were given to the national and zonal best State Legal Services Authority, best District Legal Services Authority, best Panel Lawyer and Best Para Legal Volunteers.

NSLSA was adjudged the Zonal Best State Legal Services Authority based on its new initiatives of creating its own theme song and creating awareness through active participation in carrying out action plans. Best Zonal Para Legal Volunteer was also bagged by Tingkai Konyak from Mon District for his exemplary services.

The chief guest for the programme was Union Minister of Law & Justice & IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad. Prasad in his speech congratulated the National Legal Services Authority led by Justice Madan B Lokur, his team and the jury for the recognition.

He said that such a defining moment was important because it was this kind of movement that shapes the entire country and feels the pulse of the people.

He encouraged Para Legal Volunteers and panel lawyers to keep the passion and fire alive within them and shared from his experiences when he was a lawyer and took up legal aid cases.

He said that the award should impel them to work with more passion and emotion.

Nagaland was represented by Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Gauhati High Court judge and executive chairman of NSLSA; Mezivolu T Therieh, member secretary of NSLSA; Niechochiyi Suyie, district & sessions judge, Zunheboto & chairman of ZDLSA (representing State Best DLSA 2018); Atoka Achumi, civil judge (Jr), Dimapur (representing State Best DLSA 2018); Sunjib Rana, panel lawyer, KDLSA (State Best Panel Lawyer 2018); Tingkai Konyak, para-legal volunteer, MDLSA (State Best PLV 2018).
