Dimapur: The State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) released the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan (PRS) Report 2024 for Nagaland, which provides a comprehensive overview of student learning outcomes and school education practices across Grades 3, 6, and 9.
No district in the state ranked among the top-performing districts at the national level in any of the grades, the State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) said on Wednesday.
The survey, previously known as the National Achievement Survey, was conducted by PARAKH NCERT under the Union Ministry of Education. It commenced on December 4, 2024, to assess competencies in language, mathematics, science, and social science, covering 22,220 students and over 3,335 teachers from 724 schools across Nagaland.
The survey analysed performances across categories such as gender, location, school management type, and social group.
At the foundational stage (Grade 3), the stateโs performance was below the national average, particularly in mathematics. Phek and Mokokchung emerged as the top-performing districts in the state, while Kiphire and Tuensang were at the bottom. Kiphire also featured among the 50 low-performing districts in the country.
At the preparatory stage (Grade 6), students again performed below the national average, especially in mathematics, placing Nagaland among the bottom 10 performing states.
Authorities ranked Mokokchung and Phek among the top districts, while placing Noklak, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang, and Kiphire at the lower end. Noklak, Shamator, and Kiphire also featured among the 50 low-performing districts nationally.
At the middle stage (Grade 9), students performed above the national average in language but continued to lag in mathematics, science, and social science. Kohima, Mokokchung, and Dimapur were in the top-performing category, while Shamator, Kiphire, Noklak, and Mon remained at the bottom. Shamator and Kiphire were again among the 50 low-performing districts in the country.
The PRS Report 2024 serves as a critical evidence base to guide district- and state-level planning, ensuring data-driven reforms to improve the quality, equity, and relevance of school education in Nagaland, the SCERT said.
