The Tizit Area Students’ Union (TASU) of Mon district in Nagaland has decided to impose an indefinite blockade on NH-702 from Monday in protest against the State Government’s failure to pay heed to their ultimatum dated October 9 last.
However, the district administration, institutions, para military, police personnel on duty and medical have been exempted from the purview of the blockade.
The demands of the students’ body include construction of Inter-State Connectivity (ISC) road from Tizit town via Yanpan-Sako-Loakkum-Nokzang-Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh, four numbers of RCC T-beam bridge along the same road and speeding Namtola-Mon (NH-702) road construction.
The decision of imposing the blockade was taken during the emergency meeting held on Friday last along with the federating units and village council chairmen under TIzit area;
This was stated in a press release issued by TASU president T Noklem Konyak and general secretary Phaonel Konyak on Sunday.
The meeting also resolved not to lift the blockade unless the department concerned and contractors begin the work.
The students’ body also warned of intensifying the blockade by way of stopping all government mechanism under Tizit, if the need arises.
It further stated that the concerned department and contractors would be solely held responsible for any untoward incidents during the period of the blockade.
In this regard, TASU has sought the cooperation of all stake holders under Tizit and Mon district and requested to avoid travelling along this route during the blockade.
