A post on Twitter uploaded by BJP MLA Mmhonlumo Kikon, who is also the co-convener of election campaign of BJP for Nagaland, on Sunday claimed that Independent MLA Jacob Zhimomi from 5th Ghaspani 1 Assembly seat has resigned from Nagaland Assembly and is likely to join BJP soon.

“Winds of change in #Nagaland politics! Independent MLA Jacob reigns from the Assembly! All set to join @BJP4Nagaland,” Kikon twitted.

Former chief minister KL Chishi and Vikho Yoshu of NPF resigned from their respective parties on Saturday.

Sources said Chishi will formally join BJP on Monday.

Yoshu, who was the Advisor in the State Cabinet, tendered resignation from the Assembly.

The former Chief Minister is expected to contest from 32 Atoizu Assembly constituency. Yoshu is from Southern Angami-I constituency.

Yoshu had submitted his resignation letter to NPF president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Assembly Speaker.

So far two MLAs have resigned from the Assembly and quit the NPF. Earlier former Home Minister Y Patton resigned from the Assembly and joined the BJP.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Singha, in a circular, on Sunday has convened a meeting with representatives of all political parties in the state in the Conference Hall of Kohima Deputy Commissioner at 11 am on January 23 with regard to expenditure monitoring measures in view of the upcoming general elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
