According to the NPCC, the incident is not an accident but an “afterthought”. It demanded that justice be delivered without fear and prejudice.

Therie said the NPCC has been observing the inefficiency of the government. “Four days and no arrest go to explain the government’s intention,” he said.

Therie said though the government is fully aware of the sensitivity of the “situation” in the area, it has not been able to make decisions.

He added that the people no longer respect the State government under which the subject of public order falls.

Condemning the killings, the NPCC said the action has shamed the Christian society.

Meanwhile, the Zeliang Students Union Dimapur observed a candlelit vigil at The Garden in Super Market here today evening in honour of the three killed.

In another development, Western Sumi Hoho president Dr Kakheto Zhimomi resigned from his post. He resigned owning moral responsibility for violation of 2019-2022 resolution of the Western Sumi Hoho that says “no individual or group will be allowed to shed even a drop of blood especially in land dispute cases and matters pertaining to such issues be resolved amicably ”.

In a statement, Zhimomi said the March 22 incident was a total violation of the resolution. He said he has resigned as Western Sumi Hoho president since he has no moral right to hold the office any longer.

He stated that the resolution was passed in view of the perpetual land dispute between the Zeliang and Sumi communities that had resulted in the loss of many precious lives in the past.

Zhimomi also said there should not be any room for acceptance of any form of bloodshed in a civilized society and that the Western Sumi Hoho vehemently opposes any violent crimes.
