CAA: NPF issues show cause notices to two MPs

Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye and Lok Sabha MP Lorho S Pfoze

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has issued show cause notice to its Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye and Lok Sabha MP Lorho S Pfoze for voting in favour of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Parliament despite the party’s core committee resolutions to oppose the bill.

The disciplinary action committee of the NPF on Thursday asked Nagaland MP Kenye and Manipur MP Pfoze   to explain as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them within seven days from the date of issue of the notice on or before December 26.

In the show cause notice, NPF disciplinary action committee chairman Blaise Iheilung and secretary Tsumongo Ovung said the committee held a meeting at the party headquarters in Kohima on Thursday to deliberate on the recent action of the two MPs in Parliament.

The notice said both the core committee of the party in its meeting held on January 30 and the central executive council on January 31 this year passed a resolution to oppose the CAB.

The same resolution was reiterated in the party’s consultative meeting at the NPF central office in Kohima on March 30.

The notice to Rajya Sabja MP Keney, who also currently holds the post of secretary general of the NPF party, said he was expected to act/vote in consonance with the standing resolutions of the party.

It said Keney, in total defiance of the party’s resolutions, voted in favour of the CAB in the Upper House of Parliament on December 12.

In the notice, the NPF said he was elected as Lok Sabha MP from Outer Manipur parliamentary seat on NPF ticket.

It said Pfoze, who is also a member of the central executive council of the NPF, was expected to act/vote in consonance with the standing resolutions of the party but he voted in favour of CAB in Lok Sabha on December 11 in total defiance of the party’s resolutions.

Lone Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland Tokheho Yepthomi from ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, an alliance partner of BJP, also voted in favour of CAB.
