In view of the forthcoming Nagaland Assembly elections slated on February 27, Nagaland Home Commissioner Abhishek Singh has, in an order, on Thursday instructed all village councils to ensure proper discharge of their duties and responsibilities as per the provisions of Area and Village Council Act, 1978.

As per the provision of Section 15 (1) of the Village Council Act, village councils have been entrusted with powers to deal with internal administration and maintenance of law and order in their villages, the order reminded the village councils.

The Home Commissioner requested all the village councils to render all possible assistance to the personnel deployed for conduct of elections and the district administration for maintenance of law and order.

Further, informing that the entire law and order machinery of the state functions under the control and command of the Election Commission of India during the conduct of elections, the order stated it is the responsibility of the village councils to ensure adherence to the guidelines of the Commission and the Model Code of Conduct in letter and spirit.

Training for members of state and district Media Certification and Monitoring Cell (MCMC) of the states of Nagaland and Tripura was held through video conferencing by Election Commission of India, Media Division, on Thursday.

In Dimapur, the MCMC team participated at the video conference training in Dimapur DC office. Various topics such as certification of advertisement of political nature, duties of state and district MCMC, pre-certification were highlighted to the participants.

The trainers from Delhi also clarified the queries raised by Dimapur DC & DEO Sushil Kumar Patel, who is also the Chairman of Dimapur district MCMC team.
