The NSCN-IM on Monday claimed that two of its members, identified as Brownson and Sunikiu, who were arrested on charges of kidnapping are innocent and not involved in the crime ‘as alleged by the complainants and the PAC, NCD, etc’.
The outfit in a statement issued to the media on Monday stated that the two persons were arrested by the police ‘based on false information’ and appealed for their release ‘in good faith’.

The statement issued from the MIP of the NSCN (IM) said that the two persons had acted ‘on the request of the Naga businessman who was swindled of lakhs of rupees by the non-Naga scammers’.
“The non-Naga swindlers were detained for questioning when they arrived in Dimapur and not kidnapped as alleged. The main culprit was a former employee of Indian armed forces who was posted in Naga area earlier before being terminated for indulging in illegal activities which he continues to do so even to this day. Had it not been for the timely intervention of the NSCN members, he and his team of swindlers would have continued hoodwinking the Nagas,” the press statement had claimed.
The outfit had also appealed to Naga civil society organizations ‘not to randomly accuse the NSCN or brand any suspects as NSCN members without thoroughly verifying the facts for it can be misconstrued that the PAC or our own Naga CSOs holds a grudge against the NSCN.”
