The Nagaland unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) on Sunday expressed shock at the killing of an NPP supporter by suspected militants.

The NPP supporter was killed in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. Grievous injuries were caused to another supporter.

In a release, the state NPP condemned the incident as a “senseless act of abduction and assault” on two party workers – Jaley Anna and Kham Nai Abhi. Anna succumbed to his injuries and Abhi is undergoing treatment.

The duo was supporters of NPP candidate Tirong Aboh, who is contesting from the Khonsa West Assembly seat in Arunachal Pradesh, the release said.

The state NPP said it strongly denounces any form of violence as a secular democratic political party.

The party said use of “muscle power” for the sake of achieving or giving out a political statement is totally unjustified in a democratic country like India.

“Such acts of violence need to be condemned by all rational thinking people and more so by all political parties that believe in working for the welfare of the people,” it said.

The state NPP conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Anna and wished speedy recovery of Abhi.

The state unit exhorted Abhi to be courageous and steadfastly stand on the party principles so that the sacrifices of Anna would not “go in vain” but become a source of inspiration for the NPP to continue working for the welfare and development of the whole Northeast region.
