Nagaland Governor PB Acharya on Friday urged the people of northeast to utilize their skills and knowledge for development of the region.

The Governor also urged the north easterners to be proud of their languages and cultures. He was addressing the inaugural talk of the three-day national seminar on “India’s North East, A Celebration of (Indigenous) Cultures: A Phenomenological Approach” at St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama.

He said the North East region has the potential to be at par with the rest of the country and that the people must work towards achieving this goal.

Stating that the region is blessed with abundant natural resources, he stressed that educational institutions need to play an important role to tap these resources.

“Skill courses in line with the need of the region should be introduced to benefit students and North East. Unless North East develops India will not develop,” he added.

Acharya further stated that unity in diversity was the peculiarity of India which is a synthesis of diverse social and cultural elements. He called upon all to strive to build a world free from malice and full of brotherhood and compassion to take our country to new heights.

Prof Prasenjit Biswas, North East Hills University, Shillong, gave the keynote address on the topic “India’s North East, A Celebration of Cultures”.

The seminar will conclude on November 25 where a number of resource persons from various universities and professionals from across the country will take part.

The event is organized by St Joseph’s College, Jakhama and sponsored by the University Grants Commission.
