Dimapur: Naga People’s Front MLA from Bhandari constituency in Wokha district, Achumbemo Kikon, opposed barricades put up by Assam police in the disturbed area belt (DAB) along the Assam-Nagaland border areas in the district.
Wokha district borders Assam’s Golaghat district.
Addressing the monthly Bhandari District Planning and Development Board meeting at Bhandari on Wednesday (September 4, 2024), Kikon said, “Notwithstanding established agreement that came into force as early as 1972, it is objectionable that the police from Assam side have put up barricades which are being manned with the presence of some CRPF personnel.”

Kikon said the CRPF stationed within the DAB, as neutral forces, is supposed to look after the security aspect of the people without fear, favour or partiality towards any particular state.
“The barricades put up by the Assam police should be removed at the earliest as the state forces must act within the parameters of the established agreement,” he stressed.
Registering a strong protest over the matter, the MLA demanded that those barricades be removed and frisking of local commuters be stopped immediately.
He also urged the border magistrates of Merapani and Uriamghat to oversee what measures should be taken to assert neutrality on both sides of the two states’ border.
