Nagaland governor PB Acharya on Wednesday announced to donate Rs 1 lakh to Government Hindi Institute, Dimapur to institute awards for meritorious students of the institution.

Acharya made the announcement while interacting with the principal and teachers of the only government Hindi institute in the state at Raj Bhavan in Kohima.

He appreciated the teachers and officials of the institute for imparting training to indigenous Naga candidates on Hindi teaching.

Stating that all languages are equal, he said, “Our mother tongue is our identity and we should respect all languages.”

The governor congratulated the institute and exhorted its teachers to continue working towards linking the people of the country through the national language. He also acknowledged the keen interest shown by the Nagas in learning Hindi.

Principal of the institute, Gulab Chandra, informed the governor that the institute was established in 1968 and it is all set to celebrate its golden jubilee in November this year. He also stated that the staffing pattern of the institute is managed by Nagaland department of school education while its curriculum was affiliated with Central Institute of Hindi Agra since its inception.

Chandra also brought to the notice of the governor that the institute urgently needed a proper building with class rooms, office and toilets as the present building was in a very bad shape. He requested the governor to extend support towards construction of a new building for the Institute.
