Dimapur: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has expressed concern over the recent rise in cases of sexual violence against women and minor girls in the state and directed the police to take stringent action against those responsible.

The governor issued the instruction during a meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma at Lok Bhavan in Kohima on Saturday, where the two reviewed the prevailing law and order situation and discussed measures to address crimes against women and children.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Yadav called for swift investigations and decisive legal action to ensure that offenders are brought to justice. He stressed that incidents of sexual assault must be dealt with firmly and that law enforcement agencies should adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward such crimes.

The governor also urged the police department to strengthen surveillance and monitoring systems, enhance preventive measures, and remain vigilant in tackling offences targeting vulnerable sections of society. He emphasized the need to ensure timely assistance, protection, and justice for victims.

In addition, Yadav underscored the importance of public awareness and community involvement in preventing crimes against women and children, noting that collective efforts are essential to creating a safer environment.

During the meeting, the DGP briefed the governor on ongoing investigations, recent developments, and initiatives being undertaken by the police to improve the safety and security of women and children across Nagaland.

Reiterating his commitment to public safety, the governor said every possible step should be taken to safeguard citizens and strengthen confidence in the state’s law enforcement system.
