Nagaland Governor P B Acharya in a message on the occasion of International Nurses Day 2018, ‘saluted the service and determination’ of all nurses working in the public and private sector of the State.

The Governor has stated that ‘sufficient, adequately trained and motivated nurses’ were essential for the health of the population and encouraged the nurses to give their best every day to save lives.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every year on May 12, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.

The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day is ‘A voice to lead: Health is a human right’.

In his message, Acharya said that nurses were the largest group of health professionals, who were the closest and often the only available health workers to the public.

The Governor also expressed his opinion that nurses have a great responsibility in protecting the health of the growing population as well as to contribute towards better healthcare and medical services.

“Today nursing has evolved into a profession with wealth of skills and professional knowledge,” the message from Governor Acharya added.

Further, the Governor also called upon the citizens of Nagaland to thank all nurses for the dedicated and selfless services they render day in and day out to provide good health and a healthy life to everyone.
