Nagaland commissioner and returning officer for the by-poll Motsuthung Patton on Monday said the general observers, Dr J. Ravishankar and Manabendra Chakravarty, have reached the state.

He informed that all the political parties, candidates and general public can contact them for any election related matter.

In a notification, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Patel on Monday informed that the district control room for by-election to the Nagaland parliamentary constituency has been set up in his office with Dimapur revenue officer Atsungba Walling as officer in-charge. Queries, if any, may be made to the district control room No. 9402041695, he said in a notification.

The first round training for the presiding officer, 1st polling officer, 2nd polling officer, 3rd polling officer, additional polling officer for VVPAT, IV Grade staff was held at Kohima College auditorium on Monday.

Kohima deputy commissioner and district election officer Rajesh Soundararajan directed all the polling personnel detailed for election duty to attend the training and cautioned that necessary action will be taken against the absentees as per the Representation of the People’s Act 1950 and Conduct of Election Rules 1961.

Meanwhile, Mon district magistrate K Thavaseelan has issued an order prohibiting the carrying of licensed arms/weapons within the jurisdiction of the district with immediate effect and till the completion of the election process to ensure the conduct of peaceful, free and fair by-poll and maintenance of public order.

He has directed all licensed arms holders to deposit their arms at the nearest police station on or before May 20. However, carrying of licensed arms for the purpose of verification at the nearest police station or deposition of the same is exempted from the purview of this order.
