Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to replace incumbent state DGP Rupin Sharma with an officer of “sufficient seniority” from other cadre. Patton, who also holds home portfolio, has also recommended Lungriading, IPS, for consideration to be deputed to Nagaland as DGP.
Lungriading is a 1990 batch IPS officer from Assam-Meghalaya cadre and his first posting was as SDPO of Lakhipur in Cachar district of Assam.
The letter written on March 28 was available on Monday.
According to the state home minister, current DGP Sharma does not possess the requisite experience necessary for being posted as DGP as he has just 26 years of experience in police service. Patton also stated that Sharma’s experience of serving in the state is very limited with just about one year as SP of Peren district. Hence, it is imperative that an officer having sufficient seniority and who is well aware of the local issues is posted as state police chief, he said.
Sharma has earned the love and respect of the people of Nagaland for his hard work, sincerity, honesty and integrity as one of the best DGPs of the state.
