Clean up drive

Mon town in neighboring Nagaland joined the 12 other mountain states and two hill districts in The Himalayan Clean Up drive on  Saturday at Private Station, Monty.

The drive has been initiated by Integrated Mountain Institute (IMI) and Sustainable Development Forum of Nagaland (SDFN), a statement said.

In Mon, the Himalayan Clean Up Drive was organised by Walo organisation, an NGO based in Mon in associated with documentation, health, education and various other social initiatives. Despite the upcoming by election, the district administration also supported and took part in the clean-up drive.

Various unions, clubs and associations like Mon Town Student’s Union, Jovinal Sports and Welfare club, Konyak Union, Grace Ministry, Sunday School Department of Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum and  individuals from different walks of life supported the clean-up drive.

In keeping with this year’s World Environment Day theme, Beat Plastic Pollution, all organizations further resolved to preserve the environment. A signature campaign in with the pledge to ‘beat plastic pollution’ was undertaken in Mon   and was signed by individuals and groups.

After the signature campaign, a group was formed which would hold a discussion on the theme for zero waste and beat plastic pollution on June 5 on World Environment Day.
