Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Abhijt Sinha said the Election Commission of India has made elaborate arrangements for ensuring implementation of model code of conduct for the Nagaland Assembly election.

The CEO held a meeting with all the political parties of the state in Kohima on Saturday to discuss and inform them about the model code of conduct and other election related matter.

He informed the representatives of the parties that model code conduct comes into force with immediate effect after the declaration of election schedule while asking them to keep in touch with the Election Commission officials so that all political parties can be kept aware of changes of the Election Commission.

The CEO also called upon all the candidates and their supporters not to create any obstruction but to co-operate with the election officials for ensuring peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general election. He further asked the representatives of the parties to seek proper permission in writing from the district administration for use of public places for meeting and rally.

He said as per the Election Commission of India one candidate is allowed to spend Rs 20 lakh in election expenditure related matters. He informed that a number of check posts have already been set up where CCTVs and other fixed cameras are fitted in order to track down any illegal activities.

The CEO also stated that any person carrying cash of more than Rs 50,000 should have proper documents for what purpose he or she intends to spend the amount, adding any person carrying Rs 10 lakh or more should bring it to the notice of the Income Taxes Department.

As per the directive of the ECI, there will be three types of election observers, namely general observer, police observer and expenditure observer and there will be flying squads in all the districts to get hold of illegal activities, he said.

All updated documentation related to election matters and model code of conduct for the guidance of political parties and candidates were distributed in the meeting.
