Guwahati: Following the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Toulazouma village under Chumoukedima district, the district administration has enforced immediate containment measures to curb the spread of the disease.

In an official advisory, Chumoukedima deputy commissioner Polan John stated that the outbreak was confirmed by the office of the chief veterinary officer. Authorities have declared the area within a 1-km radius of the affected village as an โ€œInfected Zoneโ€, while regions falling within a 10-km radius have been categorized as a โ€œSurveillance Zoneโ€.

To prevent further transmission, the administration has restricted the movement and transport of pigs, pork, pig feed and related materials both within and outside the notified areas. Slaughter, sale and distribution of pigs and pork products have also been suspended in the containment zones until further notice.

The advisory noted that veterinary officials and law enforcement agencies will carry out intensified monitoring and disease-control activities in the affected regions.

Village councils, GBs, ward authorities, butchers, meat sellers and residents have been instructed to strictly follow the guidelines and promptly report any unusual illness or death among pigs to the nearest veterinary office.

Pig farm owners have additionally been asked to adopt strict biosecurity practices, including regular disinfection and limiting access to farms. The administration also directed that carcass disposal must follow prescribed veterinary protocols and Government of India guidelines.

Officials warned that any violation of the restrictions or directives would invite legal action under relevant laws.
