The by-polls to Meghalaya’s Ampati assembly constituency and Nagaland Lok Sabha constituency in the hill state will be held on May 28, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Thursday.
The bypolls in Ampati LAC is necessitated after former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma relinquished the seat as he was elected from two constituencies–Ampati and Songsak in the recently concluded Assembly polls.
The by-elections in Nagaland is necessitated as Neiphiu Rio had to vacate the Lok Sabha constituency after having recently taken over as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland.
The last date for filing nominations for contesting the bypolls is May 10 and the date for scrutiny is May 11. The last date for withdrawal of the nomination is April 14.
Polling will be from 7 am to 4 pm on May 28. The counting will start at 8 am on May 31.
