Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Development (Independent ) Naba Kumar Doley was elected as the new president of the Assam Football Association (AFA).

He was elected as the president for the term 2019-2023 in the Annual General Meeting of AFA held at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of 51 affiliated district units of AFA in the state.

The meeting also elected 22 office bearers and governing body members.

The election process was supervised by advocates Bijon Kumar Mahajan and Nausad Alam.

Doley was elected from Dhakuakhana constituency in the state legislative assembly elections in 2011 and 2016.

The meeting also nominated chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s chief patron and Gilbertson Sangma, Tosen Bora, Debashish Roy, Noni Dutta and Dhaneswar Goyari as patrons of AFA taking a fresh resolution.

Hemendra Nath Brahma was elected as the secretary of AFA.

AFA was founded in 1951. It is affiliated to the All Indian Football Federation and is one among the thirty six Indian State Football Associations.
