Police and Army on Friday in a pre-dawn joint operation arrested a suspected Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) cadre in Lower Assam’s Dhubri district.
Army officials said acting on a tip-off, the Rajput Regiment of Army along with police launched an operation at Shilairpar village under Gauripur police station in the district and nabbed the suspected cadre of the Islamist rebel outfit.

The arrested cadre has been identified as Abed Ali, 43, a resident of Shilairpar village under Gauripur police station.
Army officials said the apprehended person worked as linkmen of the MULTA outfit.
He was involved in numerous illicit activities for last couple of years and carried out mob operations in and around the Dhubri district, said an Army official.

One 7.62 rifle and one 7.65 pistol along with four rounds of live ammunition were also recovered from his possession.
He has been later handed over to Gauripur police station for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, the family members and villagers of arrested Abed Ali rushed to the Gauripur police station on Friday noon and demanded his unconditional release.
According to villagers, Abed Ali is an innocent person and he is a victim of conspiracy.
