Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday saluted the doctors’ remarkable and selfless contribution in curbing the coronavirus pandemic on the occasion of Doctors Day.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “India salutes our doctors- exceptional care givers who are at the forefront of a spirited fight against COVID-19.’

In a short video clip, Modi said that while mothers give birth, doctors ensure our rebirth.

They are saving lives by putting themselves in danger, he added.

India celebrates National Doctor’s Day on July 1 every year in order to mark the birth and death anniversary of an eminent doctor Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy who had also served as second chief minister of West Bengal from 1948 to 1962.

Dr Roy, who was also a freedom fighter and an educationist also played a key role in founding five eminent cities in West Bengal namely Durgapur, Kalyani, Bidhannagar, Ashokenagar and Habra.

In 1991, the Indian government declared July 1 as Doctor’s Day in order to honour the services given by the doctors across the nation.

Meanwhile, July 1 is also celebrated as Chartered Accountant’s to commemorate the finding of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) by the parliament of India in 1949.

ICAI was founded to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country.

The ICAI is the sole licensing and regulatory body for the financial audit and accounting profession in India, and its recommendations are followed by everyone – from the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) to companies and accounting organizations.

PM Modi also lauded the role of Chartered Accountants whose services play a great role in the economic development of a nation.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Our industrious CA community has a major role to play in ensuring a healthy and transparent economy. Their services to the nation are deeply valued. Greetings on Chartered Accountants Day.”
