Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling for being the longest Chief Minister of the country.
In his congratulatory message posted on Facebook, Conrad said, “Your dedication and commitment is a testimony of your leadership which keeps the spirit of democracy alive. You have not only transformed Sikkim but set a benchmark for others to follow.”

Chamling was sworn-in as Chief Minister for the first time on December 12, 1994 and he has completed 8,536 days in office.
Chamling is the longest standing current Chief Minister of any State in India after India’s independence. Prior to establishing the Sikkim Democratic Front, Chamling served as Minister for Industries, Information and Public Relations from 1989 to 1992 in the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Cabinet.
Born on September 22, 1950, the Sikkimese politician, Chamling is the fifth and incumbent Chief Minister of the State. Chamling is the founder President of the Sikkim Democratic Front, the party which has governed Sikkim for five successive terms since 1994.
Since 1975, Sikkim has had five Chief Ministers. The first was Kazi Lhendup Dorjee of the Indian National Congress.
Chamling of the Sikkim Democratic Front has served as Chief Minister of Sikkim since 1994. He has occupied the office longer than all his predecessors put together.
Chamling was 44 when he took over the reins of the State.
