Sinlung Hills Council interim government consisting of 14 members was inducted on Friday by Aizawl DC Dr A Muthama.

The interim Sinlung Hills Council is the outcome of the agreement signed between the state government and the Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) on April 2 this year.

HPC-D spokesperson Lalthalien was inducted as the chief executive member of the new council which will look into the development of the Hmar populated areas in northern Aizawl districts bordering Cachar district and Manipur.

Working chairman of the HPC-D during the peace talks, LT Hmar was inducted as the chairman of the council and Lalbieknung was inducted his deputy. As per the agreement the general council consists of 14 members, of which 12 were nominated by the overground HPC-D and two members nominated by the state government.

The newly inducted council will have executive power to formulate plans, schemes, budget, make bylaws and rules and impose, levy and collect taxes within its area. The council area will be divided into 12 constituencies and it will receive funds directly from the state government.

Four council members, Darliensang Ralsun, JC Zairemkunga, Lalthlamuana Hmar and Melody Lalchhuangzeli were also inducted as the executive council members.

Rohringa Hmar, Lalrinsanga Ralte, Benjamin, B Lalthachhunga, Lalremruata Varte and the two state government nominees Lalmalsawma Darngawn and Lalrammuanpuia were also inducted.
