Several districts of Mizoram have banned the assembly of more than 5 people in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

An official said on Saturday that district magistrates of Aizawl, Lunglei, Lawngtlai and  Kolasib districts have imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in their respective districts banning assembly of more than 5 people as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.

The official also said that Khawzawl, Serchhip and Champhai district magistrates also banned the assembly of more than 10 people in their respective districts.

The prohibitory orders come into effect from Saturday and will valid for two months from the date of issue of the order except for Aizawl district, which is valid till April 10, he said.

He said that other districts also to follow suit.

After banning online system of Inner Line Permit, the state government on Saturday instructed all issuing authorities to stop issuance of temporary ILP till further order.

However, people who transport essential commodities were exempted from the ban.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Zoramthanga sent a message to the people comforting them in time of distress.

While urging the people not to panic unnecessarily, he said that all preventive measure should be strictly followed by all citizens.

The Chief Minister also said that the state government is making massive efforts to prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus in the state.

The state government on Friday issued an office memorandum instructing all heads of state government departments and offices to ensure that only 50 per cent of Group B, C & D employees of the state government attend office every day and the rest should work from home to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, sources said that some villages have banned road connectivity with neighbouring villages in order to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

Chanmari local council in Aizawl also instructed all shops and markets to close their shutters in its locality from Monday till further order.

A state health department official on Saturday said that no case of Coronavirus has been detected in the state till date.

He said that more than, 55,400 people have been screened at various screening counters along the international and inter-state borders till Saturday.

He added that at least 172 people have been put under home quarantine and over 1,250 people were advised to observe self-quarantine at their houses.
