The Zamuang- Bairabi link road is used to transport commodities from Mizoram to Tripura, following blockade on national highway 306 by residents of Assam’s Lailapur.

Locals of Lailapur had recently launched a blockade on NH-306 linking Mizoram with Assam, in the wake of a border dispute demanding the withdrawal of Mizoram forces from the inter-state border.

The blockade launched on October 28 was completely withdrawn on November 11.

The Zamuang- Bairabin road will also link  Kanhmun with Bairabi village in Kolasib district

State Manpower Development Board vice chairman and ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA, Zothantluanga said the newly renovated bridge and road would pave the way for the people of the state to transport commodities from Tripura.

He said that chief minister,  Zoramthanga was deeply concerned about road connectivity with Tripura as the state had been facing many difficulties due to regular road blockades by locals of Assam.

He thanked the state public works department, police, leaders of village councils and NGOs for their collective efforts in renovating the Bailey bridge and the road.

Efforts are also on to upgrade the bailey bridge over Teirei river along Kanhmun to Bairabi road.

Mizoram shares a 66 km inter-state border with Tripura.
