The National People’s Party (NPP) started its new journey in Mizoram with the formal launch of the party at Aizawl on Saturday.
After the official launch of the party, NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated they are confident that the people of Mizoram would accept them giving them an opportunity to “champion their cause and concerns”.

Following the launch of the party, Conrad Sangma on his Twitter handle on Saturday stated: “Proud moment for us as we embark on a new journey in Mizoram.”

“NPP has a commitment for the people of Northeast and we are confident that people of Mizoram will accept us and give us an opportunity to champion their cause and concerns,” tweeted Conrad Sangma,.

The NPP national president also recalled his father PA Sangma, who was the former Lok Sabha Speaker and founder of the party.
Recalling late PA Sangma, NPP president Conrad Sangma tweeted: “As we launch NPP in Mizoram I am reminded of my father late Purno Agitok Sangma, whose ideal was to make the party a platform to voice common concerns and issues of the people of Northeast.”
After arriving in Aizawl on Friday, the NPP president had interactions with the people of Mizoram to understand their concerns and issues.
Conrad Sangma had tweeted on Friday: “On the eve of the launch of NPP , I decided to interact with different sections of the society to understand concerns and issues of Mizoram. I am confident that #NPP will be able to raise the voice and concerns of the people of Mizoram.”
The ruling party in Meghalaya, NPP already has presence in several States of the Northeast including Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
The party will contest the coming elections to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly. The term of the 40-member Mizoram Legislative Assembly constituted on December 16, 2013 will expire on December 15 this year.

According to reports, the party has planned to put all efforts to get Congress legislators in poll-bound Mizoram to join the party, besides getting other parties including the Mizo National Front (MNF) work together to form the Government after the Assembly polls.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader Prestone Tynsong told reporters recently that he had visited poll-bound Mizoram a few days ago and met some Congress leaders there, besides leaders of other political parties to impress upon them the need to work together.
