AIZAWL: A teacher in Mizoram has been suspended for leaking questions of a particular subject in the ongoing class-10 board examination, which he provided to some specific students as suggestion prior to the board examination, a minister said on Monday (March 11).
Delivering a statement during zero hour in the ongoing budget session on Monday (March 11), Mizoram education minister Dr Vanlalthlana said that officials of Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) immediately launched a probe after complaints regarding questions of Social Science subject, the examination of which was conducted on March 8, turned out exactly similar to suggested questions given by a teacher of government-run Mizo High School to his students prior to the board examination, was raised in various social media platforms recently.

Subsequent, the MBSE questioned Mizoram Secondary School Teachers’ Association (MISSTA) president, Mizo High School principal, some students and and the teacher suspected to be involved in the unfair means.
The teacher, who is part of a moderation team ( experts tasked with filtering question papers), has admitted his misconduct and said that he provided the board exam questions as suggestion to some educationally weaker students during a special class he organised for the them, the minister said
The students noted down the suggested questions on their note books, which is also kept as evidence, he said.

On further investigation, it was learnt that the suggested questions were not widely circulated as the special class was attended by a few students and all class-10 students of Mizo High School did not receive the suggestion.
The matter was discussed in the emergent meeting of education minister and officials of MBSE on Saturday and Sunday, he said.
Vanlalthlana said that the government felt unfortunate for the incident and took the matter seriously.
He said that the accused was suspended on Sunday for his misconduct and a First Information Report (FIR) was submitted to a police station on the same day.
The minister also said that the examination committee convened a meeting on Monday to decide further action on the particular subject (Social Science).
He said that examination for all remaining subjects will continue as per schedule.
The incident sparked anger among students and parents, who raised complaints on various social media platforms.
Mizoram’s apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) had earlier urged the government to probe the matter.
