At least 212 people, including 80 students and boarders of three private schools in Aizawl, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, an official statement said on Monday. 

The statement issued by Mizoram information and public relations department said that two more persons from Aizawl district have succumbed to the infection on Sunday night, taking the death toll to 479. 

The single-day positivity rate increased to 19.31 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 1,098 sample tests, it said. 

A total of 509 people have recovered from the disease on Sunday, taking the total recoveries to 1,26,672, it said.

Of the fresh 212 cases, Aizawl district reported 149 cases, Champhai district (24), Khawzawl district (14), Lunglei district (10), Mamit district (6), Serchhip district (4), Kolasib district (3) and Lawngtlai district reported 2 cases, the statement said. 

The number of active cases now stands at 4746, it said. 

According to state health department, the state has so far tested 13.99 lakh samples for COVID-19. 

Over 7.10 lakh people have been inoculated till Saturday, of which more than 5.46 lakh people have been fully vaccinated, it said.
