The Mizoram Journalists Association (MJA) has boycotted Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S B Shashank‘s press conference of Monday, saying that the journalists’ association has shown solidarity to the Central Young Mizo Association’s Save Mizoram Movement.

The MJA felt that the present political scenario of the State has to be addressed to in tune with the CYMA initiatives.

“Members of the MJA have made repeated attempts to interview S B Shashank over the past few days, but to no avail. The MJA felt this denial as an utter contempt of journalists as a whole and see no reason why its members should attend the press conference of one officer who has been avoiding the press for the past one week,” C Lalhmachhuana, general secretary of MJA said.

The MJA said the CEO has not made any formal invitation nor notified the fraternity of the press regarding his press conference.

Members of the MJA and media persons only came to know about the press conference from one whatsapp group, which too came without any official signatory.

The MJA also warned that the CEO should stop dictating terms and conveyed to him that if he wanted a press conference, an IAS officer like him should follow the courtesy of at least inviting the Press.

The CEO press conference was attended by a few DDK correspondents and government media. No journalist attended the conference.
