Mizoram on Saturday reported the highest single-day spike since the state has witnessed the second wave of Covid-19 as 62 more people, including 21 policemen, have tested positive for the infection, which took the tally in Northeastern state to 4,809, an official said.
Of the new cases, 26 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 23 from Lunglei district, 8 from Lawngtlai district, 3 from Serchhip district and one case each was reported from Champhai and Kolsib districts, he said.

30 patients, including 21 police personnel who have returned from Assam after election duty, have travel history, he said.
He said that a 29-year-old woman and her 7-month-old infant were among the newly infected people.
Of the 62 newly infected patients, 17 patients, including the 7-old month infant, have developed symptoms of Covid-19, the official added.

Mizoram now has 315 active cases, while 4,482 people have already recovered from the virus.
12 people have succumbed to the infection so far.
The state has tested 2, 73,247 samples, including 2,069 on Friday.
According to state immunization officer Dr. Lalzawmi, 1, 14,673 people, including 27,545 senior citizens have been administered the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine till Friday.
Of this, 31,999 people have received the second dose of the vaccine.
