Aizawl’s Rajiv Gandhi Stadium will be upgraded under the Khelo India scheme as one of the first eight Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs) in India under Khelo India scheme.
The stadium will be upgraded with a total budget of Rs 11.52 crore in four years, a PIB release stated.
The support will be in the form of infrastructure upgrade, setting up of a sports science centre and also soft components in the form of quality coaches and sports science human resources like physiotherapists, strength and conditioning experts.
“High-quality equipment will also be provided to the players. The academy will also have High-performance Manager to ensure quality sports science input and performance management,” the release said.
It may be mentioned here that the union sports ministry is upgrading existing sporting infrastructure in every state and union territory (UT),.
It is creating the KISCEs with the aim of promoting a robust sporting ecosystem in the country.
Each KISCE will be given support in 14 Olympic sports, of which one State or UT will be given support for a maximum of three sports.
