Mizoram prepared for November 28 election; 10 polling stations ‘critical’

The Mizoram state election machinery is fully prepared to conduct elections to the 40-seat Assembly on November 28, State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S B Shashank said on Monday.

He also said that a total of 7,68,181 voters, including 3,93,685 female voters will exercise their franchise in 1,164 polling stations across the State.

Among these the administration has identified 10 polling stations in north-eastern part of Mizoram adjoining Manipur as ‘critical’.

The critical polling stations are Zokhawthiang, NE Tinghmun, Sailutar, Sunhluchhip and Ratu- I & II in Tuivawl constituency, NE Tlangnuam and Daido in Chalfilh constituency.

Officials on Monday disclosed that para-military forces would be deployed in these polling stations for smooth conduct of the elections.

Meanwhile, Aizawl district Deputy Commissioner and district electoral officer, Dr A Muthamma said that Aizawl district is fully prepared to conduct election to 14 Assembly constituencies.

She also said that 2,88,322 electorates including 1,51,590 females voters would exercise franchise in 328 polling stations in Aizawl district alone.

According to the official, there are seven returning officers and 14 assistant returning officers in Aizawl district.

She further said that VVPAT machines will be used in all the polling stations.

Dr A Muthamma further said that one phase of EVM ‘randomization’ has been completed and around 35,000 voters have conducted mock poll, adding that people can lodge any poll related complaint to the call-centre by dialling 1950.

Elections to all the 40 Assembly seats will be held in a single phase on November 28.

The last date for filing nomination is November 9, while scrutiny of nomination paper will be held on November 12.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is fixed on November 14. Counting will be held on December 11.

According to Dr A Mathumma, there will be five counting centres in Aizawl. They are Pachhunga University College, Government Aizawl College, Hrangbana College, Assembly Annex and R Dengthuama hall.
