Officials monitoring the Bru repatriation said that only one family from Tripura has returned so far, five families from Khakchangpara relief camp are expected to return Monday.

The repatriated family is being resettled in Lunglei district, officials said.

Mizoam home department officials have registered 432 families who have agreed to return, but sources from the camp said that the Brus have turned deaf ear to the calls of repatriation.

Mizoram Bru Displaced People Forum (MBDPF) has boycotted the repatriation process and has given new sets of demands to the Mizoram government and the union ministry.

Earlier the home department of Mizoram has stated that around 2,753 people belonging to 423 families from three relief camps have expressed their willingness to return to Mizoram during the identification process.

“We expect five families from Khakchangpara relief camp to be repatriated today, they will be settled at Kolasib district,” Lalbiaksangi, joint secretary of Mizoram home department said.

Home department officials said that officials overseeing the repatriation process would return to Mizoram Monday evening citing that there was no point since the Brus were not willing to return.

Home department officials said around 2,753 people belonging to 423 families from three relief camps have expressed their willingness to return to Mizoram during the identification process.

The Bru families will be resettled in Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei districts.

The Equal Package Demand Committee, a group formed by the already repatriated families, demanded equal rehabilitation package and threatened to boycott the process.
