AIZAWL: The Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC), on Wednesday (February 21), staged a massive demonstration opposing fencing of the India-Myanmar border and termination of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between the two neighbouring countries.

The protests were led by Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) president H Lalthianghlima along with NGOCC secretary Prof Malsawmliana.

During the protests, the Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC) also passed a resolution stating that the “Government of India’s attempt to lift the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and close the Indo-Myanmar border is not acceptable”.

The organisation also stated that the “NGOCC’s efforts to revive the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and cancel the Indo-Myanmar Border fencing are strongly supported”.

On February 13, the Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC) held a meeting at the Central YMA Committee Room, where they decided to organize a protest against the closure of the India-Myanmar border and the termination of the Free Movement Regime (FMR).

The NGO Coordination Committee consists of several non-governmental organizations, including prominent groups such as the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), Mizo Students’ Union (MSU), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), MHIP (Mizo Women’s Front) and MUP (Mizo Elders Association).
