Aizawl: Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena on Tuesday urged the Centre to expedite the proposed construction of a railway line from Sairang to the southern tip of the state and to allocate funds for the project in the 2026–27 Union Budget, an official statement said.
Speaking at the All Parliamentary Floor Leaders’ meeting on the eve of the Budget Session, Vanlalvena said that the preliminary survey for the railway project linking Sairang near Aizawl with the Indo-Myanmar border has already been completed, the statement said.
Citing the strategic importance of the project for both Mizoram and the country, Vanlalvena urged the Centre to allocate funds for it in the 2026–27 Budget, the statement added.
The Mizoram MP also stressed the need to widen the Aizawl–Sairang road into a four-lane highway to ease growing traffic congestion following the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line. He sought budgetary support for the road project as well, the statement said.
As the Sairang railway station is located along the route to Lengpui airport, traffic movement has increased steadily since the station was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September last year, Vanlalvena said.
