Aizawl: The legal board of the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) on Monday lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police in Mizoram over the alleged creation and circulation of a โforged and falseโ video purportedly featuring party president and former chief minister Zoramthanga.
The complaint, filed by MNF Legal Board secretary David R Lalsawmtluanga, alleged that the video had been digitally manipulated to make it appear that Zoramthanga was promising annual financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh to poor people if the MNF returned to power in the 2028 Assembly elections.
According to the complaint, the video has been widely circulated on social media and carries captions mocking the alleged promise.
The MNF maintained that Zoramthanga had never made such remarks and alleged that the video was created and circulated with the intention of damaging his reputation and tarnishing the image of the party.
The legal board urged the police to establish the origin of the video and identify those involved in its creation and dissemination.
The complaint named three social media users whom the MNF alleged had shared or posted the video, including ZPM Media and Publicity chairman and minister B Lalchhanzova and a Facebook user identified as Marini ZPM.
The party claimed that the alleged fabricated video had been circulated through platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and Instagram.
The MNF sought registration of a case under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for an alleged offence under Section 336(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). It also urged authorities to initiate legal action against those responsible.
